look up "undermethylation"; inositol is great for this, and some of these cases involve psychosis. undermethylated persons almost always have some form of obsessive problem, and inositol is great for this, but that's not psychosis. Look it up and see if it fits you, and add it to your regimen if it does. Bless.

What does inositol do for your body?

Inositol is also known as Vitamin Bm. It is found naturally in oranges and cantaloupe. The "B" stands for the family of B vitamins, the "m" stands for mouse factor. Inositol is not a vitamin, but may be a vitamin for many people because their bodies seem to never produce enough of it causing them mild to extreme stress and anxiety. It is used by the brain to regulate: anxiety, stress, obsessive compulsive disorders and difficult emotional states. It is mainly used in very large doses by people suffering from mild to extreme forms of anxiety and/or stress and/or obsessive compulsive disorders. A basic multivitamin or B complex vitamin can contain roughly 0mg, 50mg, 75mg or 100mg of inositol. The doses used to treat mental health challenges is 2000mg to 18,000mg per day spread out in 2 or 3 doses. Doctor Robert Peers from Australia recommends 5000mg of inositol per day to treat anxiety. Inositol treatment has much stronger effects than popular drugs like Prozac. Inositol is the molecule that Prozac forces into receptor sites. Taking large doses of inositol replaces Prozac and has only one side effect, temporary and mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Studies in Israel have shown inositol to be very powerful in treating anxiety, stress, obsessive compulsive disorders and difficult emotional states. Inositol will help stressed and compulsive eaters loose weight and regain their ability to exercise. Inositol also makes humans run 25% on treadmills. Inositol promotes fat lose and muscle gain. Inositol can be bought in bulk powdered form.

Why do you supplement with inositol?

Inositol was considered a B vitamin because of numerous health benefits. It influences calcium balance and also calcium uptake in bones. Animals were fed inositol and radioactive calcium so the calcium could be traced after it was ingested. The inositol improved calcium uptake in the bone by 48% compared to animals that did not have inositol. Silical is a nutritional supplement for bone health that has inositol but most bone health supplements do not have inositol as an ingredient. Charles T. Price, M.D. Institute for Better Bone Health
