Best Answer

Most likely a cancer in the salivary glands, the submandibular & sublingual.

If you are writing because you can feel a lump on either (or both side) under the jaw, do not be frightened. This is quite possibly just your submandibular (mandible being the jaw bone) lymph nodes. These can be enlarged and even tender for many reasons, mainly that your body is battling an infection.

Often, before you get sick with a disease like the common cold, the lymph nodes will swell and become tender, and this is quite normal. The lymph nodes are part of the body's immunesystem, which every day has to battle minor infections. That's why they are sometimes swollen, tender and easily palpable.

However, if the swelling persists or worsens, one should always remember to contact ones doctor, in order to be on the safe site.

What is a soft tooth impaction of a wisdom tooth?

The actual term is "soft tissue impaction." This refers to how deep the tooth lies in the jaw. A soft tissue impaction means that the tooth lies just beneath the gum tissue and no bone will have to removed to extract the tooth. In contrast, a "partial boney impaction" means most of the tooth still lies within the jaw bone and some bone will be removed during the extraction. A "full boney impaction" means the entire tooth resides within the jaw bone and more bone will have to be removed to access and extract the tooth. A soft tissue impaction is usually the least involved and least expensive extraction of the three.
