Crossing over allows daughter cells to be unique.
1
In genetics, traits that are usually linked, because they are caused by genes that are close together on the same chromosome, occasionally separate in offspring. This is called crossing-over, and is observed when geneticists are tracking traits in organisms.

2
In cytology, homologous chromosomes (e.g. the two copies of chromosome 7, or both copies of chromosome 12) can be seen to pair up during the first stage of meiosis (prophase I). The pair, which consists of two chromosomes and therefore a total of four chromatids, is called a bivalent. At a few points, typically three or four, along the bivalent, non-sister chromatids (i.e. one belonging to each of the two chromosomes), break and exchange segments. The place at which one of these breaks occurs is called a chiasma (plural chiasmata).

The cytological event (the exchange of corresponding segments of DNA between non-sister chromatids of a homologous pair of chromosomes) explains the genetic observation.

When does crossing occurs in meiosis?

Crossing over occurs during Prophase I.

Which phase of meiosis occurs right after crossing over?

Before crossing over, interphase I takes place. Crossing over occurs during prophase I. Metaphase I occurs after prophase I.

Crossing over is a process that occurs during meiosis.

When do stages of meiosis recombination or crossing over occur?

Crossing over occurs during Prophase I.

Crossing over occurs during which phase of meiosis?

Crossing over occurs during Prophase I of meiosis.

When does crossing over occur in meiosis?

Crossing over occurs during prophase I of meiosis. It is the process where homologous chromosomes exchange genetic material, leading to genetic diversity among offspring.

Are sister chromatids identical before crossing over occurs?

Yes they are attached at the centromere and remain identicle until crossing over occurs in prophase 1 of meosis

When does crossing over occur in this meiosis?

Crossing over occurs during synapsis, prophase I.

Is crossing over a key process that occurs during both mitosis and meiosis?

Yes, crossing over is a key process that occurs during both mitosis and meiosis.

Where does crossing over occur in the process of mitosis?

Crossing over occurs during the prophase I stage of meiosis, not during mitosis.

At what stage of mitosis does crossing over occur?

Crossing over occurs during the prophase I stage of meiosis, not during mitosis.

Linked genes can be separated from each other in meiosis if . occurs?

Crossing over occurs. During crossing over, homologous chromosomes exchange genetic material, leading to the recombination of linked genes and the potential for them to be separated and inherited independently.
