They survive by forming a thick protective coating around themselves. They are then known as spores. Inside the spore the bacteria cell becomes dormant and may remain there for a long period of time.

Evolution by natural selection. All bacteria of the proto-extremeopyhiles were variants and some of these variants had some tolerance for extreme conditions. Most of the extremophyiles were already anaerobes and the variants, over time, became adapted to the extreme conditions they lived in by the filtering process of natural selection. The best fitted to the environment survived and reproduced the next generation of those bacteria with the same traits into a population of endless variation.

These special and very old bacteria are called Archaea bacteria. They are associated with extreme environments, contain unique cell walls and have unique internal structures.

Archaea bacteria that are found in hot springs are called thermophiles and those found in high salt content areas are called halophiles.

What are some names of ancient bacteria?

Technically, all bacteria is ancient and has developed over billions of years. The bacteria we find today all comes from a common ancestor. Some ancient bacteria had to thrive in extreme environments, they are known as Extremophiles. These Extremophiles live in environments that other organisms can not, such as high temperatures, extreme pH ranges.

What structures do some bacteria form under unfavorable conditions?

endospores

What are archae also known as extremophiles?

The archaebacteria kingdom is one of the six kingdoms. Organisms in this kingdom are also called Bacteria; they are unicellular and live in very extreme environments. The "common bacteria" belongs to another kingdom; the Eubacteria kingdom, bacteria in this kingdom differ from bacteria in the archaebacteria kingdom and they do not live in extreme environments.

Why can some bacteria live in volcanic vents?

Biota that live in extreme environments are known as extremophiles. They have evolved to like these conditions. Black Smokers in the ocean floor, are surrounded by such organisms - in that case, of ones that can survive without light and oxygen.

What special defenses do spores and capsules have?

Bacteria can form capsules and spores. A capsule is a protective layer around some bacteria. They can be virulent as they can resist the body's defence mechanism. Bacteria can change into bacterial spores when the environmental conditions are unfavourable. In this condition bacteria are inactive. When the environmental conditions become more suitable the bacteria can become active and cause disease. Bacterial spores are extremely resistant and can survive most forms of disinfection and inadequate sterilisation

Some bacteria can survive extended periods of very harsh conditions by forming?

endospores. Endospores are dormant structures with thick protective layers that allow bacteria to withstand extreme temperatures, desiccation, and exposure to chemicals and radiation. When conditions become more favorable, endospores can germinate and the bacteria can resume their normal metabolic activities.

What are the features of the Toughbook?

Toughbooks can withstand a variety of adverse conditions. They have a magnesium alloy case so they can withstand damage from drops and they also have some protection from extreme temperatures and liquid spills.

What is unique about vegetation in the desert and tundra regions?

the plants are adapted to the climate like in the tundra there are plants that sort of hug the ground like mosses and lichen while in the desert plants that can conserve water and withstand heat such as cacti some shrubs and sagebrush so the answer would be... They are specially adapted to withstand the dry or cold conditions (extreme conditions).

Are some microorgamism more resistant to heat that otherswhy?

Archea bacteria are able to survive in extreme conditions more than any other micro-organism.

Are satellite dishes able to withstand extremes of wind and termperature and still work?

There are some satelitte dishes used by the military that are able to withstand high temperatures and high winds. In most cases however, commercial satelittes for home use wont be able to handle extreme conditions.

Can bacteria live in 360 degrees of hot water or anything?

There are some bacteria that live in extreme conditions they are called extremophiles. Bacteria that specifically live in very hot temperatures are called thermophiles. However your question could be 360 Kelvin or degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit; which brings us to the importance of units...

How does praying mantis egg sacs survive winter?

They have some type of special coating on them that is tough enough for them to withstand extreme winters.

Why deserts are important to the ecosystem?

because there are variety of life that can withstand the heat and some bacteria that removed carbon dioxide in the air...

What are some examples of conditions that might cause some bacteria to form endospores?

Some bacteria respond to an unfavorable environment by forming endospore.

As you demonstrate in this experiment high temperature inactivate catechol oxidase how is it that some bacteria live in the hot spring Yellowstone pack at temperature as high as 73 degrees celsius?

The bacteria that live in the hot spring are of a different kind. They can survive in extreme conditions. There are also other type of bacterias that can live in salty and some which can live in acidic conditions. Also because their proteins are in their correct form when at extreme temperatures, and in fact when put at temperatures that are normal for us, their proteins would deform and they could die.

Can bacteria thrive in an environment low in pH?

Some can, while others can not. It depends on the type of virus. Often, non enveloped viruses are more resistant to low pH, such as the enteroviruses. On the other hand, many enveloped RNA viruses are very sensitive to low pH, and can be inactivated by acid wash.
