I don't know how, but I do know that it is true that you can hear higher frequencies when you are younger. My family tested this theory, we downloaded and iPod app that was made for testing this subject. My brother who is 11, and I at age 13 could hear frequencies that are higher than my parents could, both of my parents are around age 35.
