i'd like to know too. my dad said old timers put rock salt in toilet tank, so water is salty and slowly kills roots in sewer pipes.
don't know if salt damages pipes though.
Salt in toilet works (in the toilet) because it avoids metal piping (traps & such) in sinks & tubs (which salt Will corrode). It is a most direct way to main drain, which today are clay pipe or PVC. My experience is that roots only grow into old Clay pipe fittings & joints. I've replaced a 'few' with PVC & had no further trouble. If you can afford the major expense.
But don't forget to irradicate the Source, as best you can.
Wedging of tree roots along natural joints in granite outcrops is primarily a mechanical process rather than a chemical one. As tree roots grow, they exert pressure on the surrounding rock, exploiting existing joints and fractures in the granite. This physical force, combined with the expansion of roots as they absorb water, can slowly pry apart the rock, causing it to fracture and creating space for the roots to grow further. While chemical weathering processes can also contribute to the breakdown of rock, in this case, the wedging of tree roots is predominantly a mechanical weathering mechanism.
It is not recommended to use rock salt to kill a tree as it can harm the soil and other plants in the area. If a tree needs to be removed, it is best to consult a professional arborist for safe and effective methods of removal.
Plants can have a physical and chemical impact on rocks. Their roots can grow into cracks in rocks, causing them to break apart through a process called physical weathering. Plants can also produce acids that can react with certain rocks, leading to chemical weathering and the breakdown of minerals within the rock.

Well it has very strong hold fasts (roots) to keep it firmly attached to the rock but it also has air filled bladders to help it keep afloat when the tide comes in
If tree roots are in your septic system, you really need to seek professional help. Rock salt will kill tree roots but they will still need to be removed.
Yes, rock salt kills ivy roots. It nevertheless needs to be sufficient in proximity and quantity to do so. Sufficiently near and sufficiently sized, it overcomes ivy roots -- and all other area vegetation -- that ask for soluble nutrients and instead encounter dehydrating desiccants.
Pouring rock salt down a toilet drain can help dissolve grease and debris that may be causing a clog. The salt can act as a natural cleaning agent to help break down the blockage and improve drainage. However, it is important to use caution as excessive salt can potentially damage pipes and fixtures.

A tree can break a rock apart by growing roots that penetrate the rock, causing it to crack due to the pressure exerted by the roots as they expand. Additionally, over time, the roots can absorb water and minerals from the rock, weakening it further and eventually leading to its fragmentation.
The roots of the tree break into the rock.
A yard of drain rock typically weighs around 2,700 to 3,000 pounds, depending on the size and type of rock.

Certainly. You can kill a person with a rock, it all depends on where you hit them.
