Thirst is the first response to signal the bdy to take in fluids. Whn a person is thirsty, the body is already dehydrated. In a baby, there i s less urine in diapers and less wet diapers. Also, the fontannel, the 'soft spot' of the head becomes slightly sunken and mucus membrans become dry.. In the elderly, the thirst center is comproised and they become dehydrated more than healthy adults.
