A potato is a tuber, a store of energy and a blueprint for the next seasons growth.

When a potato is beginning to grow eyes appear on the skin, if planted it is the eyes that grow into a new plant.

When the potato plant is fully grown it produces more potatoes ready for next seasons growth.

Potatoes reproduce asexually through a method called vegetative propagation. This occurs when new potato plants develop from buds or sections of the parent potato, such as tubers. The process does not involve the exchange of genetic material between two parent plants like in sexual reproduction.

Each potato contains multiple "eyes." If you leave an unpeeled raw potato at room temperature long enough, the eyes will begin to sprout. Each sprout becomes a new plant that is genetially identical to the parent plant, and can produce many potatoes. To plant potatoes, you cut the mature raw potato into chunks, with at least one eye on each chunk. Plant the chunks.

Take a look at a whole, unpeeled potato and you will see very small spots on it. Some will have 'roots' or 'spikes'. These are not close together and they are called 'eyes'. If you cut these out with some underlying potato, a new entire plant will grow, This is a clone of the first one and this is asexual reproduction.

The reproduction takes place through the eyes which grow when they decay.

How is sexual and asexual alike?

sexual and asexual reproduction are not alike at all because of the following reasons sexual:any part of the plant other then the seeds takes place in the reproduction 2:plants produced by sexual reproduction take less to grow and bear fruit or flower then those produced from seeds. Yes, they are alike because they both produce babies that are like them. -girlyj

What is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction of the plants?

Sexual = new plants form seeds Asexual = new plants from cuttings or runners etc.

How can both asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction allow for the survival of a species?

Some organisms can use both types of reproduction. For example, when conditions are favorable, many plants and fungi will reproduce asexually. Doing so lets them spread quickly and take over an area. When the environment changes these organisms will switch to sexual reproduction. this strategy increase the chance that the species will survive.

Why does asexual reproduction take less energy to perform than sexual reproduction?

Asexual reproduction involves only one parent and does not require the energy-intensive process of finding and attracting a mate. In sexual reproduction, there is the additional energy cost of courtship, mating, and producing gametes which are not needed in asexual reproduction.

What are disadvantage of asexual reproduction?

Some disadvantages of asexual reproduction are- Offspring are genetic clones. A negative mutation can make a sexually produced organisms susceptible to disease and can destroy large numbers of offspring.- Some methods of asexual reproduction produce offspring that are close together and compete for food and space.- Unfavorable conditions such as extreme temperatures can wipe out entire colonies.its not efficientif the parent is ill or has a disease then the offspring will have it as wellgenerally leads to overcrowdingIn Asexual reproduction, an exact copy is made of the parent. So, there is no inherited variability and everyone is a "clone." So, if the environment changes and people need to adapt, there will be no available mutations to let evolution take its course, and the species will most likely die out. There are no variations in offspring except those caused by mutations, so, if the environment changes, there might be little chance of any offspring surviving.

asexual

Are male and female always required for reproduction to take place?

No they are only requiered in sexual reproduction, in asexual reproduction only one parent is needed.

What type of asexual reproduction is a Ivy plant?

it is asexual if you do not plant it from the root. eg. take a clipping and that will count as asexual.

Why is cloning a form of asexual reproduction?

Sexual reproduction requires the mixture of DNAs from two different sources(i.e. you got a set of chromosomes from you mother and one from your father). Asexual reproduction involves a copying of just one source of DNA. In cloning, you take DNA from just one source and so it is asexual.

Does autumn sedum plant reproduce by leaves?

You can take cuttings of sedum and root them. This is asexual reproduction. However, sedum do have flowers and make seeds. This is sexual reproduction.

Differentiate sexual and asexual reproduction?

Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of gametes from two parent organisms, resulting in genetic variation among offspring. Asexual reproduction involves the production of offspring from a single parent, resulting in genetically identical offspring.

What are the benefits of growing plants with asexual reproduction?

dosen't take time to grow help to make anew plants

Which plant part is the place where reproduction takes place?

Reproduction in plants take place in flowers or mega- & microsprophylls.

Reproduction where there is only one parent?

It is called asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction is common with certain plants, like strawberries. Cloning also involves one parent. What happens is they find a female animal that is the same breed as the animal. Then they remove the egg, take out its nucleus replcing it with th nuclus of the cell of the animal they are cloning, and replant the egg back into its animal the egg came from. Then when the animal is born, it has no resemblance to its mother, but looks similar to the animal cloned. I hoped i helped.

How does a opuntia reproduce?

Opuntia reproduces through both sexual and asexual means. Sexual reproduction occurs when flowers are pollinated, leading to the development of seeds within fruits. Asexual reproduction can happen through the production of new plants from stem segments or pads that are detached and take root in the soil.
