all insects have little holes on the side of the body called spiraculi, find a large grass hopper and look carefully and you'll see them. they are conected to a chain of tubes called trachea which reach every single cell in the insects body.

Insects are a little different to you and me, with them being much smaller they can almost rely on direct diffusion (the movement of particles from high concentration to low concentration). This works by having small circular 'hatches' called spiracles on the sides of there bodies, and low amounts of oxygen in the needed areas. This means that the air rushes in and down the trachea's tubes, to the for example muscle, quick movement allows the concentration gradient to stay high and therefore diffusion rate.

But this system limits there size, as being too big they oxygen couldn't diffuse quick enough and the cells would die, also when the spiracle's are open transpiration takes place (water 'evaporates' off them) so when they need oxygen they lose water and vica versa.

How do you get oxygen inside the body?

Take a breath.

Grasshopper breathing structure?

Grasshoppers and most insects 'breath' though Spiracles located along the sides of their bodies. These openings feed a net of branching tubes that get oxygen directly into the insects body and tissues.

How does oxygen enter the mitochondria?

Oxygen in your air is inhaled by our body and then transported to the lung for purification. Again, oxygen is distributed to the different tissue and organs of our body by RBC blood cells. Once oxygen is delivered to a particular tissue, cells barier plasma membrane is permeable to oxygen and allow to diffuse inside cell. Once inside the cell, it crosses the mitochondrial membrane and participate in mitochondrial respiration.

Ho does oxygen reach the cells of the body?

When you inhale in the lungs the air goes into little sacks called alveoli. In the alveoli gaseous exchange occurs this is when the carbon dioxide from the capillaries is exchanged for the oxygen you inhaled. When in the capillaries the red blood cells absorbs the oxygen and transports it around the body until all the oxygen is absorbed by the body it is then brought backed to the lungs where gaseous exchange occurs again.

How does your body get oxygen from the air. How does your body breathe in the air when there is heaps of bad stuff in the air?

Hemoglobin molecules inside red blood cells have a very strong binding affinity for oxygen. So when blood cells enter capillaries of the lung hemoglobin specifically binds the oxygen present.

How is breathing process of an insects different from that of fish?

The way in which insects and fish breathe differs in the process in which each receives oxygen. Insects use a tracheal system to receive oxygen and fish use their gills to filter oxygen out of the water.

Is our blood blue when in the body?

Our blood is not blue when in the body. Many people think that because they assume that we don't have oxygen, and when exposed to oxygen it turns red. This isn't true because we do have oxygen in our body. Without it inside we will be dead.
