The eyes form an exception to the rule that the left side of the brain controls the right hand side organ and vise versa. Each eye is split such that the left half of our vision goes to the right side of the brain and vise versa.

While fixing the gaze, each point in the view is mapped to the same place in the brain via BOTH eyes.

This was first proposed by Isaac newton, and confirmed 150 years after is death.

The eye works by focusing light through the cornea and lens onto the retina. The retina converts light to nerve signals that travel to teh brain via the optic nerve. The brain interprets those signals and you understand what yuo are seeing.
