Unlike somatic (body) cells, gametes have two time the number of chromosomes as body cells. Gametes (2n). Body cells (n). For example, human 46 chromosomes in gamete cells but half of that (23) in body cells.
A child is created when the male sex cell joins the female cell. If the male and female sex cells had the standard number of chromosomes, as is found in body cells then the zygote (baby) would have double that number of chromosomes. The number of chromosomes would keep doubling every generation. To avoid this doubling the parent's body cells split by mieosis which halves the number of chromosomes and so when the sex cells join the total number of chromosomes is the same as that found in the parent's body cells.
I believe that there are 23 chromosomes in a sex cell
The gametes have half the number of chromosomes as a body cell.
All cells within an organism will have the same number of chromosomes, which is the diploid number. The gametes, on the other hand, will have the haploid number of chromosomes.
4. Two gametes get together to make something new. Just double up!
Gametes have half the number of chromosomes - therefore if the diploid number is 22, the gametes would have 11 chromosomes.
A gamete has half the diploid number of chromosomes, so in this case, the gamete would have 15 chromosomes.

They merge.

Haploid cells are "sex cells" that are found in the ovaries or testes of a sexually reproducing organism. Sex Cells.
Gametes have half the number of chromosomes - therefore if the diploid number is 22, the gametes would have 11 chromosomes.
A gamete has half the diploid number of chromosomes, so in this case, the gamete would have 15 chromosomes.
When a zygote is diploid it obtains two sets of chromosomes. Gametes contain one set of chromosomes. Therefore, 6 chromosomes would amount to 3 sets of gametes.
