The Origin of Species has effected us massively.
Firstly and most obviously, the book expanded our knowledge of the natural world greatly. It claimed that all species fight for survival in 'the survival of the fittest.' Creatures that are better adapted to their environment will survive longer, produce more young and pass on their favourable characteristicts to their young until this branch of the creature becomes a completely new species (it cannot breed with the old ones) or replaces the old ones completely.
However, the book has influenced us in many other ways to. The whole structure of the idea of 'the survival of the fittest' has led to racism (when people think their race is better than others just as a better adapted creature would be better than a badly adapted one. It has also lead to the justification of certain movements such as the Hitler's idea of the supreme Aryan race.
It could also be argued that the 'survival of the fittest' can also be paralleled to todays economic system in which businesses fight for survival in a tough economic world where only the better prepared ones will profit and be able to stay open and functioning.
I hope this answers your question!
The "mystery of mysteries" referred to by Charles Darwin was the origin of species, or the mechanism by which new species arise and evolve over time. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection, presented in his seminal work "On the Origin of Species," provided an explanation for this mystery.

Charles Darwin is the scientist known for proposing the theory of evolution through natural selection in his book "On the Origin of Species" published in 1859.
The theory was rather well formed by 1839, but " The Origin Of Species ", which elucidated the theory, was not published until 1859.
Charles Darwin wrote a book called On the Origin of Species, in which he explained his conclusions that 1) modern species derived from ancestors they share with other species, and 2) that the driving mechanisms behind this development is reproductive variation and natural selection.
