- Passive transport is the transport of molecules that do not require energy. Diffusion and osmosis are examples. Facilitated diffusion also falls into this category.
- Active transport is the transport of molecules that requires energy. Phagocytosis, Pinocytosis, as well as endocytosis and exocytosis all falls under this category.
