The bile secreted by the liver contains metabolized materials from the bloodstream, as does urine produced by the kidneys. The majority of solid waste from the digestive system passes through the large intestine where bacteria help extract materials such as vitamins, along with most of the water. The skin also excretes waste products in sweat, mostly urea and lactate from the muscles.

The food you eat is digested and accumulates in the intestines. The small intestine is what the body uses to absorb the nutrition from the food. The large intestine is where "solid" waste (fecal matter) accumulates in the body. When the large intestine is full, you experience the urge to defecate. Within the rectum, there are two bands of muscles called sphincters. They are used to push fecal matter out of the body through the opening called the anus.

Liquid waste involves a different process. The spleen and liver are what breaks down toxins in the blood into chemicals the kidneys can process. The kidneys are what actually removes the chemical waste from the blood. They drain urine through tubes called ureters into the urinary bladder. There are muscles in the bladder which serve to hold the urine and to allow for pushing the urine out when relieving oneself through the process of urination. The urethra is the tube that carries the urine from the bladder to outside the body. The urethra is different between the genders. The female urethra exits the body below the clitoris, the sensitive part located at the top of the vulva. The female urethra plays no reproductive role. The male urethra is longer internally than the female urethra. It is routed through the prostate gland and seminal vesicles, allowing semen to also exit via the urethra. The urethra travels the full length of the penis.
