The simple answer: In the inner ear the cochlea (the roundish wound up thing that looks a little like a snail shell to me), picks up vibrations from the eardrum (AKA Tympanic membrane) which are then converted to nerve impulses, which are received by the brain as sound.
The middle bone, the incus, moves when vibrations are received and transmitted in the middle ear. It transfers the vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear, where they are converted into electrical signals that the brain can interpret as sound.
The medulla relays auditory information from the cochlea to higher centers in the brain, such as the thalamus and auditory cortex. It plays a crucial role in processing and interpreting sound signals received from the ears.
Ear defenders reduce the intensity of sound reaching the ears, which decreases the amplitude of the sound. However, they do not affect the pitch of the sound, as the frequency of the sound wave remains the same.
D- The eardrum in the middle ear vibrates with the frequency of the received sound. These vibrations are then transmitted to the small bones in the middle ear, which amplify and transmit the sound to the inner ear for further processing.

Sound vibrations are first received in the outer ear, specifically the ear canal. The vibrations travel through the ear canal and cause the eardrum to vibrate.
Receiving sound waves is the process by which sound travels in form of waves and is received by our eardrums to be heard.
