Mitochondria are organelles, which is to say, tiny structures found within cells, which are analogous to the organs of the body on a smaller scale. If you wanted to compare a school to a cell, which is not at all an obvious comparison, you might say that the school principal is the cell nucleus, the teachers are the mitochondria, and the students are the cytoplasm. The school walls are the cell membrane. But then again, you might prefer to award the title of school mitochondria to the Basketball team, if you are a big sports fan. It is, in any event, a very approximate comparison.

The mitochondria is like the powerhouse in a school. It makes energy for the school to work. It produces energy to run air-conditioning, lights, heat. No energy no school.
