How is the sunlight the primary source of energy for our own life?

The sun IS the source of:

• solar energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation now
• solar energy in the form of high energy ions accelerated by the suns magnetic field
• weather patterns and large storms at sea
• fossil fuels from solar energy captured by living things in the past

The sun IS NOT the source of:

• geothermal energy
• nuclear energy

Both geothermal energy and nuclear energy originate predominately from supernovas that blew up a few billion years before the sun formed, producing quantities of radioactive elements. Some of these radioactive elements were in the dust cloud that formed the solar system, from which earth got its share when it formed.

Mostly because everything we need to live, needs the Sun. For example, without rain our world would be very different. However rain doesn't happen without the water cycle. The water cycle can't progress without the Sun, therefore, the Sun is the cause of weather. Also, think of meat and poultry. Cows feed on grass which can't grow without the Sun. The cow ingests the energy from the Sun and passes it on to the consumer. Therefore, every aspect of our life can be traced back to the Sun.

Sunlight provides Vitamin D which is a nutrient which allows your skin to darken, providing addiotinal protection, and it also is a primary source of food for plants. If there was no sunlight, the majority of plants would die off, causing insects to die, which would eventually climb up the food chain and start to effect humans.

Solar Energy is also currently being used and is far more efficent than regular electricity.

There are other forms of energy that living things use, such as geothermal energy in the deep ocean which don't depend on the sun.

Plants use sunlight in photosynthesis to make their food. That is how they are able to live. Plants are the primary level in most food chains. They are also our only oxygen producers which is a waste product in photosynthesis. So simply sunlight is the primary source of energy because plants obtain their energy from a process that depends on this, then herbivores obtain their energy from eating plants, then us 'omnivores' obtain our energy from feeding on both plants and herbivores.
