An organism has a haploid number of 20. What is the organism's diploid number?

16 (haploid number = n, and diploid number =2n) so if n=8, the diploid number is 2x8 = 16

How many unique gametes can be produced via assortment for an organism with a diploid number of 6 chromosomes?

When a zygote is diploid it obtains two sets of chromosomes. Gametes contain one set of chromosomes. Therefore, 6 chromosomes would amount to 3 sets of gametes.

A housefly has 12 chromosomes in a diploid. Every living organism on the planet has a chromosome number represented by a diploid number (2n).

How many unique gametes can be produces via independent assortment for an organism with a diploid number of 6 chromosomes?

When a zygote is diploid it obtains two sets of chromosomes. Gametes contain one set of chromosomes. Therefore, 6 chromosomes would amount to 3 sets of gametes.

Why reductional division or meiosis essential in organism?

Meiosis reduces number of chromosomes to one half . when two gametes fuse , it restores original diploid number of chromosomes .With out this diploid number of chromosomes could not be maintained .

How many chromosomes does a germ cell contain?

23. Germ cells (sperm and egg cells) are haploid, which is to say they possess half of the total number of chromosomes found in somatic cells. Somatic cells in humans have two sets of 23 unique chromosomes for a total of 46 chromosomes.

If an organism has 16 chromosomes in each of its egg cells the organisms diploid number is 32?

The gamete or haploid cell of an organism contains half as many chromosomes as a diploid body cell. An organism that has 32 chromosomes would produce a gamete with 16 chromosomes.
