We are looking for the possible blood types of a baby.

Parental information:

  • Mother type B --can be BB or BO = Genes to contribute: B, O
  • Father type A --can be AA or AO = Genes to contribute: A, O
Baby receives one gene from each parent:
  • Baby is type AB = Type AB
  • Baby is type AO = Type A
  • Baby is type BO = Type B
  • Baby is type OO = Type O
YES, if one parent is Type A and the other Type B, they might be able to have a Type O baby.

Yes. Blood type is based on two alleles, so your mother with type A (A- = type A with Rh-negative), she could be AA or AO. Similarly, your father could be BB or BO, since both combinations would result in blood type B. It's kind of like holding 2 envelopes with directions for cooking a certain recipe. BB would be like holding 2 envelopes with the same B recipe. BO would be like holding one envelope with the B recipe and another envelope that's empty. You can make B either way.

Let's say that it turns out that the mom is AO and the father is BO. They each give their children one of their two alleles, randomly, each time they have children. If it turns out that both happen to give the O allele, then the child would be OO, which would be blood type O. That's the only way you can get blood type O.

If the mother is AA and/or the father is BB, then this won't work. They both have to have an O allele.

We are looking for the possible blood types of a baby.

Parental information:

  • Mother type A -- can be AA or AO = contributes A or O gene
  • Father type A -- can be AA or AO = contributes A or O gene
Baby receives one gene from each parent:
  • Baby is type AA = Type A
  • Baby is type AO = Type A
  • Baby is type OO = Type O
IF both parents are heterozygous Type A (AO), then there is a 25% chance that the offspring will be Type O (OO). However, if one or both of the parents are homozygous Type A (AA), then there is zero chance for a Type O baby.

HOWEVER: There is more to ABO blood typing that just the ABO gene.

There is also an inhibitory gene that will change any genotype into the phenotype O.

Therefore a person with genetically AB blood can be tested as having Type O.

If the baby's inhibitory gene has been turned "on", then no matter what ABO genes he receives from his parents, he will test out as a Type O.

No. A motherr with type A blood and a father with type B blood cannot have a child with type O blood. One of the parents must have type O blood.

Is there a posibility to have a child that is blood type -A A couple who are blood type B and blood type O?

No. It is not possible for a child to have A if the parents are O blood type. If both parents have type O blood, then their children will also have type O blood. However, two parents with type A or type B blood (both the same or one of each) can sometimes have a child with type O blood. That is because the gene for type O blood is recessive. But they must carry the O type. However, two parents with type AB blood can have a child with type A, type B, or type AB blood, but cannot have a child with type O blood.

If both parents are blood type o is it possible for their child to have a blood type a positive?

No, two type O parents can only have type O children. See the table below from www.dna-bioscience.co.uk/did_you_know_abo.shtml If you look at the row for mother's blood type O where it intersects with the column for father's blood type O, you will see that the child's blood type must be O. For the child to be Rh+, only one of the parents has to be Rh+.

Is it possible for parents who are both blood group O to have babies who are blood group A?

If one parent has blood type B and the other blood type O, it is possible to have a baby of blood type O or B. It is NOT possible (0% chance) to have a baby with blood type A.

How could 2 parents with blood type A and B have a child with the blood type of O?

both parents carried the recessive gene for type O blood. the baby then inherited 2 recessive genes and received type O blood. the reason the parents didn't have type O blood is because they carried genes that were more dominant.

Can type o mother and AB father have an o child?

Not normally. Father can only contribute an O. Mother can contribute a B, or perhaps an O (if she has BO genes). Child would be either O or B (with BO genes). However, rare exceptions do exist.

Could a child with type B blood have parents that are both type A blood?

Only if it was adopted...the only options for that child's blood type would be A or O if the biological parents are both Type A.

If both parents have A blood type can they have a child with o blood type?

Yes. Both parents could be heterozygous, that is AO, and pass on the O to their child.

Can parents both blood type O have a child with a positive?

No. If both parents are type O, the child will also be type O.

How is a child's blood type determined?

The child's blood type is determined by his or her parents' blood types. If both parents have type A, the child can have either type A or O. If both parents have type B, the child can have either type B or O. If one parent has type A and the other parent has type B, the child can have type A, B, AB, or O, but he/she is most likely to have type AB. If both parents have type O, the child will have type O.

Can two parents with blood type A positive have a child with O positive blood type?

Yes, if both parents have the genotype AO, then the child can have the O from both parents, phenotype O

Can parents both with O positive blood type have a child with A blood type?

Yes

The parents must have both blood type B or blood type 0 and B.

Can parents with o blood type to have a child with b blood type?

If both parents are type O blood they will only have type O children

Can parents with a positive blood have b positive child?

If they both have type A blood, they cannot have a child type B.

No

Can parents both blood type O have a child with B positive blood type?

It must have one of the true parents blood types.

Can parents with o blood type to have a child with a blood type?

If BOTH the parents have Type O blood, then their child has a 100% chance of having Type O blood. If ONE of the parents has Type O blood, then it has a lower chance. For more information, look up "Punnett Squares"
