When you try to bend your pinky finger without moving your ring finger, it may be difficult because the tendons that control these two fingers are connected. This connection can limit independent movement of the pinky finger without the ring finger also moving.
Yes, a smashed index finger can get swollen due to trauma causing inflammation and fluid buildup in the tissues surrounding the injury. It is a common response of the body to injury and may be accompanied by pain and bruising. If swelling persists or worsens, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation to rule out any underlying fractures or serious damage.
A stoma comprise of two cells, called gaurd cells. Each of these gaurd cellwall is thick around the pore, so when gaurd cells are swollen, these bend towards the pore making the stoma open. The bending happens due to turgidity of gaurd cell and their unequal thickness of cell wall.
Well, honey, if your finger is jacked up, it's gonna be swollen, painful, and probably not moving like it should. You might see some bruising or feel tenderness around the joint. But hey, I'm no doctor, so if you're in real pain, go see someone who actually went to medical school.
I hurt my pinkie finger playing Volleyball and it was swollen for 4 weeks so I finally went to the doctor. It ended up to be an avulsion fracture (small fracture). If your finger is broken it will be swollen. But take note: YOU CAN BEND YOUR FINGER IF IT IS BROKEN. Everyone told me that if it was broken, I wouldn't be able to bend it. And I could bend it and it was broken. If you think you hurt you pinkie, get it x-rayed. Now, because I waited so long, it will take longer to heal. Take Care and Good Luck.
bend it
It's probably not broken. Apply cool compress and elevate above the heart to control the swelling. If the finger can't be moved easily, and the swelling does not go down, it may then be a broken finger.
You should seek medical attention.

If you have a jammed finger and the tendon is torn away from its attachment, you will not be able to bend it at all. You will have pain on both sides of the finger and joints.
Well, the only time it's real easy to tell that a limb is broken is when it can bend or has bent between two joints. Any other situation pretty much require medical knowledge.Easy rules like "if you can move it it's not broken" aren't proof, as it will depend on both the break and the person's pain threshold too much. The only time you can safely tell that a finger or any other limb is broken w/o x-rays is when it's bending or bent between two joints, in a place where it should be stiff and straight.I broke my pinkie (avulsion fracture), playing Volleyball. It was swollen right in the middle part of my finger. My coach, teammates and friends told me that if I broke it I wouldn't be able to bend it. And guess what? I could bend it and I did brake it. So don't delay getting it x-rayed because you can bend it if it is broken. Now that I have waited 4 weeks to get it x-rayed, and now it will screw up my season in volleyball. If it remains swollen after 10 days get it checked. I seriously regret not going to the doctor.
