Which is not a basic function of the cell?

Maintaining a stable external environment

What are the 8 charateristics of life?

The 8 characteristics of life are: Organization Metabolism Homeostasis Growth and Development Response to Stimuli Adaptation Reproduction Evolutionary AdaptationOrganization is the basis of all living things which is composed of cells and their organelles. Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that occur within a living organism in order to maintain energy levels and break down nutrients. Homeostasis is the process by which organisms maintain a stable internal environment. Growth and development refer to the changes that occur as organisms mature. Response to stimuli refer to the way in which organisms react to external stimuli such as light and sound. Adaptation is the way in which organisms adjust to their environment in order to survive. Reproduction is the process by which organisms create new cells or organisms. Lastly evolutionary adaptation is the process by which organisms change over time in order to adapt to their environment.

What is a primary homeostasis?

Primary homeostasis includes vascular constriction and platelet plug( aggregate plug) formation in response to bleeding. Mainly vessel function and platelet function are mainly concerned in primary homeostasis.

The process by which a stimulus produces a response that opposes the original stimulus?

This sounds like homeostasis. Homeostasis is the process by which an organism maintains a stable internal environment. One example is temperature. When your body temperature rises (stimulus), you skin gets flushed and you start to sweat (response) to cool your body.

Does Metabolism occur when the response serves to counteract the stimulus?

No, "metabolism" is the process of breaking down (food) sugars to power an animal for movement or for the synthesis of new organic chemicals needed by an organism to live and grow.

Does a gorilla undergo homeostasis?

Yes. In order to be classified as a living creature it must display homeostasis and six other traits. (growth, reproduction, response to stimuli, organization, adaptation, and metabolism)

What are the six characteristics of all organisms?

structure and function reproduction growth and development energy utilize response to environment homeostasis

What is the number of characteristics that define you living thing?

Some people say 6, some people say 7...here's why: 1 Cells/Organization of Cells 2 Reproductions 3 Metabolism 4 Growth and Development 5 Evolution 6 Response to Stimuli -Homeostasis some people say homeostasis is the 7th but some people say its a part of response to stimuli... i would go with 7 but explain and response to stimuli and homeostasis are related

Why do trees not move like birds do they are living things?

They're plants. Plants don't generally move. They're still alive because they have all the characteristics of life: Cellular organization, reproduction, metabolism, homeostasis, heredity, response to stimuli, growth and development, and adaptation through evolution.

What are the properties of life?

The properties of life are: 1) Growth 2) Ability to Reproduce 3) Homeostasis 4) Organization 5) Metabolism 6) Adaptation 7) Response to stimuli

What are the five characteristics of a living thing?

They are... growth/development, reproduction, stimulus/response, homeostasis, and life span. I'm not sure if these are right but they're pretty close. There are 6 NO Homeostasis Made of Cells Usage of energy

Regulates the body’s response to its environment?

Homeostasis

What are the seven properties of life?

7 Properties of LifeOrder - All characteristics are a result of an organisms ordered structureReproduction- Organisms will reproduce their own kind; life comes from lifeGrowth & Development - DNA directs the pattern of growth and development, producing an organism that is characteristic of its speciesEnergy Utilization - Organisms take in energy though various methods and make it usableResponse to the Environment - Organisms will respond to stimuliHomeostasis - An organisms internal environment is regulated by mechanisms to cope with an imbalanceEvolutionary Adaption - Organisms will evolve due to changes in environment and interaction with other organisms
