The Condyloid joint

The tibiofemoral joint is formed by the distal end of the femur particularly the lateral and medial femoral condyles, and the proximal end of the tibia particularly the lateral and medial tibial plateaus. Movements available at this joint are flexion & extension, internal & external rotation. The patellofemoral joint is formed by the articulation between the trochlea of the femur and the articular surfaces of the patella. Movements available at this joint are basically gliding movements that accompany tibiofemoral joint movements, namely; superior, inferior, lateral & medial gliding.
