I have no idea how old this is but my 15 year old son has rare damage to on of his fingers and his doctor is thinking about taking cartilage from his knee and adding it to his knuckle joint.
Joints may be synovial (with a cavity) or fibrous. Synovial joints are filled with synovial fluid. Fibrous joints lack this. Fibrous joints are found in between the vertebrae. Cartilage in is both joints. This can be hylaine or fibrocartilage. Both regenerate. The synovial fluid is rather slippery and allows easy movement in those joints. If this joint is suddenly and rapidly pulled, the fluid doesn't fill quickly and a "snapping" sound is heard.

Osteoarthritis is not caused by a lack of calcium. Osteoarthritis is the result of the wearing down of cartilage in the joints of the body and is most prevalent in the big weight bearing joints.
Cartilage being worn away is a major part of the symptoms of arthritis in the joints, However it is not the cause of arthritis. A lack of cartilage is a part of arthritis.

Cartilage rings that are found in trachea
No because the lack of ligaments would stop it from moving properly and even if it could then the lack of cartilage would cause arthritis or worse.

Cartilage acts as a buffer between bones. Arthritis is a lack or loss of the cartilage which can result in painful movement when bone ends scrape each.
