The oldest known tree was cut down in 1965 in Wheeler Peak, Nevada (Great Basin National Park). It was cut down by Mr. Donald Curry, a graduate student in geography, with the assistance of a local Park Ranger. The acknowledged count was 4,844 years old. Although it is not know to be accurate, the tree is believed to be around 4,900 and 5,100 years of age.
