If the pain is on the outside of the lower leg, especially a stabbing pain, it can be a result of Sciatica, or inflammation of the Sciatic nerve. This nerve comes out of the bottom of the spine, crosses diagonally down across the buttocks, then down the outside of the leg. Even if the nerve is inflamed near the spine, it can still hurt on the lower leg.
Pain in the hips could be a number of issues including, but not limited to; Snapping Hip Syndrome or Iliotobial Band syndrome. Another issue that could be causing hip pain would be a hip stress fracture.
