Spermatogenesis- takes place in the seminiferous tubule of the testes

It is the form of gametogenesis taking place in males and utilises the two forms of nuclear division to produce a haploid gamete.

A cell from the germinal epithelium (2n) divides by mitosis to form the spermatagonia (2n), which then develops into the primary spermatocyte (2n). The primary spermatocyte divides by meiosis 1 to form the secondary spermatocyte (n), which divides by meiosis 2 to become the spermatid (n). This spermatid develops and matures in the epididymis to form the final spermatazoon (or just sperm)

Germinal epithelium --> Spermatagonia --> Primary spermatocyte --> Secondary spermatocyte --> Spermatid --> Spermatazoon
