Radiation has two primary bad effects: mutation and cellular damage.

Radiation has been shown to be a strong mutagen; that is, to cause a much higher level of random changes during cell mitosis (replication/reproduction). As the odds that a mutation are harmful are much higher than it being beneficial, radiation will generally cause a large number of bad mutations to occur. This usually results in some form of cancer.

Direct cellular damage is also possible from radiation. This is due to radiation being able to break DNA and RNA strands, not just cause mutations in them. Thus, radiation can directly lead to premature (or, even immediate) cell death.

Why do you need to remove epidural catheter first before removing foley bag catheter?

It is imperative for the effects of the epidural to wear off beofre the foley catheter is discontinued. The last area of the body to resolve the effects of the epidural is the sacral/perineal area, which innervate the bladder. The patient may not be able to sense that his/her bladder is full and may become distended (and uncomforatble) as a result. It may save a reinsertion if taken out too early. What is the effects of Alpha radiation?

The effects differs that what it is effecting if we talk about humans than in general, alpha radiation is of small risk to humans. Compared to its cousins, beta and gamma particles, alpha radiation has an extremely low penetration depth and is often completely blocked by the outer layers of skin or even the surrounding air. Although external exposure poses little to no risk to humans, internal exposure, such as through inhalation or ingestion, can prove to be extremely damaging to the body. It causes cancer kidney damage radiation poisoning

What damage does radiation do?

Radiation exposure causes damage to the cells of your body, which can mutate them. Mutated cells are sometimes referred to as cancer cells, and thus radiation can give you cancer. There are different effects from different kinds of radiation, but mutating cells is the basic form of damage that radiation does.
