The normal symptoms of a common cold include a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, and sometimes a low-grade fever.
Sodium is a cation therefore it is written as Na+
In DNA, Na refers to sodium ions that are important for stabilizing the structure of the double helix. In RNA, Na may also refer to sodium ions that play a role in stabilizing RNA secondary structures or in cellular processes.
Voltage-gated Na channels open at the beginning of an action potential when the membrane potential reaches a certain threshold level.
Voltage-gated Na channels open during neuronal signaling when the membrane potential reaches a certain threshold level.
The relationship between sodium (Na) and potassium (K) in cellular biology is significant because they are essential for maintaining the balance of ions inside and outside of cells. This balance is crucial for various cellular functions, including nerve signal transmission, muscle contraction, and maintaining cell volume. The Na-K pump, a protein found in cell membranes, actively transports Na out of the cell and K into the cell, helping to establish and maintain this ion balance.
The common name for the formula Na is sodium.
Sodium
1g of NaCl is about 17 mmol Na. thus, 15g of Na is about 255 mmol Na. 1 L of normal saline (0.9%) gives 154mmol Na. so, about 1.66L of normal saline gives about 255 mmnol Na. Edited by dejswa . . . 15 g of Na (molecular wt of ~23) is actually 652 mmol of Na. You were calculating the mmol of NaCl. This gives about 4.2 liters of normal saline. Or calculated another way, 0.91% (normal) saline is 9.1 gm of NaCl per liter. Na is ~40% of the wt of NaCl, thus 15 gm of Na represents 37.5 grams of NaCl. Divide by 9.1 and you get about the same answer. That would be quite a deficit of Na. You would have to sweat about 19 liters to lose that much Na, but an 8 hr mtn bike race in the Texas summer would do it.

Na and K are key electrolytes to maintain peak heath. Ideal Na level is 135-145mEq/L and the K level at 3.6mEq/L.
