Traditional Church (not Christian as Christ did not teach this) belief was that God had created everything in 7 days as described in Genesis and biblical scholars had worked out that this had happened about 4000 years ago.

The advent of Geology as a science and Darwin's theory of natural selection requires an immense amount of time for the species we see around us today to have come into being by small changes to species that existed in the past.

Thus in effect Darwin said that the Earth is far OLDER than the bible says, and that species were NOT created as described in Genesis but that they evolved from life that existed in the past.

This was a direct challenge to Church doctrine and the Church is still trying to recover from it because when people looked at what Darwin had said and tried to disprove his theory they have so fat not been able to do so.

What was Darwins process of evolution called?

Darwin's process of evolution was called natural selection. This process involves the survival and reproduction of individuals with advantageous traits for their environment, leading to gradual changes in a population over time.

How did artificial selection influence Darwins theory of natural selection?

Artificial selection demonstrated that desirable traits could be purposefully selected and passed down in domesticated plants and animals. This helped Darwin understand that similar processes could occur in nature through natural selection, where organisms with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce. This supported his theory of evolution by natural selection.

What is Darwins principle?

Darwin's principle refers to the concept of natural selection, where individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on those traits to future generations. This process leads to the gradual evolution of species over time.

Which is not part of darwins theory of natuarl selsction?

The idea that evolution is a directed process with a predetermined goal or purpose is not part of Darwin's theory of natural selection. Instead, Darwin proposed that evolution occurs through random variation and selection based on the fitness of individuals in a given environment.

What of Mendels conclusions is a necessary foundation for Darwins theory of natural selection?

Mendel's conclusion on the segregation and independent assortment of traits laid the groundwork for Darwin's theory of natural selection by providing a mechanism for how variation is passed down from one generation to the next. This understanding of how traits are inherited allowed Darwin to propose that natural selection acts on this variation to drive the evolution of populations.
