  • Solar energy depend on sunlight, so cloudy days don't generate as much power.
  • Solar energy is only collected during daylight, so evening power needs to be stored in batteries and in other ways.
  • Solar panels are expensive, but they are getting cheaper every year.

Perhaps the biggest hurdle to using solar energy is that currently, it is expensive to produce and uses many other resources. It is also intermittent, meaning it depends on whether there is actually sunlight available to produce energy.

the disadvantage of solar powered cars are they cost up to 27 million dollars they also are powered by sun so say it is dark for a few days then it has to rely on how much energy is saved up in the battery that is all i know right now sorry

it is a bit tough to generate solar energy than other sources of energy . it may not absorb more sunlight on a cloudy day and hence produce a less amount of energy . but it can definitely be used instead of street lights that take away so much of electricity because of being on just during the night . it is a good and useful thing so it has been started to be used for electrical stuffs.

well the disadvantages of photocells are that they are

  • Inefficient
  • They don't work in the dark or in low light conditions
  • They are expensive to used
  • And it takes time to set them up and for them to start working.

Advantages

- They generate free power anywhere where sunlight is available

- Sturdy - No moving parts - they can be set up and left alone for a while and can be engineered to withstand the rigours of a desert or of space

Disadvantages

- "Inefficient". Well, OK, sunlight is free...but who wants to walk around with a dining table sized solar panel strapped to their back so they can power their wristwatch?

- They don't work in the dark or in low light conditions.

- Expense - they take a long time to recoup the initial investment

Of course, as time goes by and the technology is refined, some of the disadvantages may be reduced
