Best Answer

Mangroves capture and filter silt runoff created by agricultural and industrial land use. In doing so, they prevent this silt from entering lakes and seas unmitigated and further polluting the aquatic environment. Mangroves also create shade, habitat and spawning areas for many species of insects, birds and aquatic animals.

In many areas mangroves are protected and cannot be removed without permission from local authorities.
