Messenger RNA (mRNA) is the RNA that carries information from DNA to the cytoplasm where it is used by a ribosome(protein) as a template to generate other proteins.

Transfer RNA (tRNA) is RNA that transfers a specific active amino acid(building blocks) to correspond to the mRNA.

Ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) is the RNA component of the ribosome, providing a mechanism for decoding mRNA into amino acids and interacts with tRNAs during translation.

My research tells me there are 4 types of RNA...

tRNA is the information adapter molecule. It is the direct interface between amino-acid sequence of a protein and the information in DNA

Messenger or mRNA is a copy of the information carried by a gene on the DNA. The role of mRNA is to move the information contained in DNA to the translation machinery.

Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is a component of the ribosomes, the protein synthetic factories in the cell

Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is the name used to refer to a number of small RNA molecules found in the nucleus. These RNA molecules are important in a number of processes including RNA splicing (removal of the introns from hnRNA) and maintenance of the telomeres, or chromosome ends

  • Messenger RNA (mRNA) carries information about a protein sequence to the ribosome.
  • Transfer RNA (tRNA) is a small RNA chain of about 80 nucleotides that transfers a specific amino acid to a growing polypeptide chain at the ribosomal site of protein synthesis during translation.
  • Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is the catalytic component of the ribosomes.

Refer to the Wikipedia link of RNA below.

messenger RNA (mRNA) - transcribes the genetic code for a gene from DNA into RNA using RNA polymerase.

ribosomal RNA (rRNA) - makes up part of the ribosome in cells.

transfer RNA (tRNA) - carries amino acids to the ribosome in a cell so protein synthesis can take place. The tRNA molecule has an anticodon with and RNA sequence complementary to that of an mRNA sequence. The tRNA molecule joins to its complentary mRNA sequence, bringing along with it an amino acid. As more tRNAs join to mRNA, more amino acids are bought to the ribosome. The amino acids join up by peptide bonds to form a protein.

There are three types of RNA involved in protein synthesis. The first one is Messenger RNA(mRNA). mRNA starts in the nucleus and makes an opposite replica of DNA by matching up the bases (A-U and G-C). This then travels out of the nucleus and meets up with Ribosomal RNA(rRNA). rRNA "reads" the mRNA and matches the code on the mRNA to the correct Transcription RNA(tRNA) in groups of three. tRNA has amino acids attached to it and as it enters the rRNA it leaves the amino acid with other amino acids creating a chain. The chain of amino acids eventually ends and fold up into a protein and goes to the correct place around the body.

  • mRNA or Messenger RNA

mRNA transcribes the genetic code from DNA into a form that can be read and used to make proteins. mRNA carries genetic information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm of a cell.

  • rRNA or Ribosomal RNA

rRNA is located in the cytoplasm of a cell, where ribosomes are found. rRNA directsthe translation of mRNA into proteins.

  • tRNA or Transfer RNA

Like rRNA, tRNA is located in the cellular cytoplasm and is involved in protein synthesis. Transfer RNA brings or transfers amino acids to the ribosome that correspond to each three-nucleotide codon of rRNA. The amino acids then can be joined together and processed to make polypeptides and proteins.

There are actually several types of ribonucleic acid or RNA, but most RNA falls into one of these:
mRNA or Messenger RNA
mRNA transcribes the genetic code from DNA into a form that can be read and used to make proteins. mRNA carries genetic information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm of a cell.

rRNA or Ribosomal RNA
rRNA is located in the cytoplasm of a cell, where ribosomes are found. rRNA directs the translation of mRNA into proteins.

tRNA or Transfer RNA
Like rRNA, tRNA is located in the cellular cytoplasm and is involved in protein synthesis.
Transfer RNA brings or transfers amino acids to the ribosome that correspond to each three-nucleotide codon of rRNA.

The amino acids then can be joined together and processed to make polypeptides and proteins.
