The part of the body that controls a reaction such a flinching or reacting to a ball your trying to hit is the somatic nervous system which is one of two parts of the peripheral nervous system So in short what happens is for ex. a ball is commin your way that u want to keep out of a net ... sensory somatic nerves relay information about the balls distance and position from you to the central nervous system to be analisized and then is sent back to your peripheral nervous system via motor somatic nerves, where it initiates the appropriate response to react to the incomming ball...it seems like a dragged out process but this happens in a split second in the body through nerve impulses.

So you have hypothalamus secreting CRH -> Anterior pituitary secertes ACTH -> adrenal cortex produces glucocorticoid to affect nutrient metabolism
