ABSOLUTLEY DO NOT USE ALCOHOL, PEROXIDE, OR NEOSPORIN!!!!!!!!! Peroxide and alcohol will dry out the piercing and cause insane scar tissue. Neosporin can actually trap bacteria into your piercing and cause it to become more infected. First of all, the most important thing to remember, DON'T PLAY WITH OR MESS WITH YOUR PIERCING!!!!!!!!!!!! Your hands will cause more infection than anything. If your piercing becomes infected, make sure you are using mouthwash after every meal, and when you brush your teeth brush the inside of your piercing with a soft bristled toothbrush VERY GENTLY! DO NOT EVER pick at the drainage/crust on your piercing, wash it gently with warm water and anti-bacterial soap to remove the dried discharge (like Dial), never use a cloth towel bc cloth towels can trap bacteria. Use a sea salt solution, like H2Ocean 3-6 times a day to help promote the removal of discharge and lymph secrections safely. If your piercing becomes badly infected, DO NOT REMOVE THE JEWELRY!!!! If you do, the wound will close up and you risk developing an abscess. The jewelry allows for the drainage of the infection. Warm compressess will encourage the infection to drain as well, works best in combination with the sea salt. If your infection has become severe enough where the lymph nodes in your neck are swollen by more than 2 inches (it happens often) go to the doctor and get on antibiotics asap! This is a dangerous part of your body to have a severe infection. You can calm the infection with antibiotics, warm compresses and sea salt. Just make sure you never remove the jewelry during an anfection, let it drain out and eventually, if you keep up proper care and washing, ESPECIALLY HAND WASHING, your piercing will calm itself and get back to normal.
If you are experiencing indentations from any piercing jewelry, it is likely the post is simply too short. Longer jewelry should correct the problem. With oral piercings, however, make certain not to wear jewelry that is overly long. Pressure on the gums or teeth will erode them.
Signs of infection in a cut include redness, warmth, swelling, increased pain, pus or discharge, and a foul odor. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention to prevent the infection from worsening.
