There are five vertebrae in your lumbar (lower back) region numbered L1 at the top and L5 at the bottom. Between each of these vertebrae are intervertebral discs which cushion and separate the vertebral bodies. Mild disc dessication at the L3-L4 level means the disc between the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae is not quite as "plump" as it should be due to a loss of fluid. Stenosis is a narrowing of an opening such as where the spinal nerves exit which can "pinch" a nerve causing pain. So the diagnosis means that the opening where the nerves exit are not narrowed or pinching the nerves in any way. Where the vertebrae do touch or articulate are at areas called facets. DJD is shorthand for degenerative joint disease, basically Arthritis. So there is some arthritis between the facets of the L3-L4 vertebrae which can be causing pain.

What is Moderate degree of spinal stenosis?

Moderate spinal stenosis means that the narrowing of the spinal canal is narrowed to the degree that symptoms are always present. At the moderate stage symptoms include stiffness or numbness in the back or neck, persistent radiating pain, and some loss of flexibility.

What are the key differences between sclerosis and stenosis in terms of their impact on the body's tissues and structures?

Sclerosis is the hardening or thickening of tissues, while stenosis is the narrowing of a passage or opening in the body. Sclerosis can affect the flexibility and function of tissues, while stenosis can restrict the flow of fluids or air through a passage, potentially causing issues with organ function.

Is vomiting a sign of pyloric stenosis?

Frequent vomiting may be an indication of pyloric stenosis and of other gastic complaints. In PS the vomiting will be violent (arch-like), not bile stained, and develop to become so persistent that the baby loses weight and condition. When this happens it is high time to see a doctor and if necessary insist on tests for PS.

Is there a relationship between spinal stenosis and primary hyperparathyroidism?

Because the symptoms of HPT vary widely from person to person, spinal stenosis can't be ruled in or out as a sypmptom of Hyperparathyroidism. That said, if you have been diagnosed with HPT, get the offending parathyroid gland(s) removed as that is the only "cure" for HPT.

What is stenosis of ureter?

What does impingement of the ventral lateral surface of the cord at c4-5 with severe spinal stenosis mean?

Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal. The spinal canal is the space in your spinal column designed to house and protect the spinal cord. The 7 bones of your neck are known as cervical vertebrae. The narrowing of your spinal canal is most severe at the level of the 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae (C4-5.) Impingement is a term that describes a body structure, usually bone, pushing into either a nerve structure or part of the cord. The cord is divided into ventral, or front, and dorsal, or back. Also the lateral, or side structure are being affected. To sum up, at the level of the 4th and 5th vertabrae of the neck, you have an impingement of the front and side portion of your spinal cord.It means narrowing.

What spinal canal diameter is a spinal stenosis indicator?

The spinal canal is usually more than 0.5 in (12 mm) in diameter. A smaller diameter indicates stenosis. The diameter of the cervical spine ranges is 0.6-1 in (15-12 mm). Any opening under 0.5 in (13 mm)in diameter is considered evidence of stenosis.

Why is the back paining?

There are many things that can cause back pain: Sore back muscles, facet joint irritation, synovial impingement, torn ligaments, scoliosis, herniation, anterolisthesis, stenosis, fracture, cancer And sometimes there is no known reason, in which case it is called idiopathic back pain.
