Taking the two formulas: Cardiac Output = Heart rate x Stroke Volume Blood Pressure = Cardiac Output x Peripheral Resistance When Blood pressure drops, either cardiac output (Heart rate or Stroke Volume) has to increase, or peripheral resistance (Aterioles Vasconstriction) has to increase. When Blood pressure drops, this is detected by baroreceptors in the carotid bodies and arch of the aorta, these send signals to the cardio vascular centre within the Medulla, which sends signals back to the heart to increase the heart rate and force of contraction.
