A creationist is somebody who believes that the universe was created by a divine creator. Usually 'creationist' refers to a believer in Christian tradition, which holds that a god created the universe in its present form in just seven days.
A Creationist might believe in a literal understanding of Genesis including its Creation-narrative. See also:Is there evidence against EvolutionCan you show that God existsGod's wisdom seen in His creationsDiscovering Creation
Evolution and creationist theories can coexist if one views the creation story as a metaphorical or symbolic explanation of the origins of life, while accepting the scientific evidence supporting evolutionary theory as the mechanism through which life has developed and diversified over time. This perspective allows for a reconciliation between faith-based beliefs and scientific understanding of the natural world.
As a general meaning, the term Creationist refers to a person, usually a Cristian, who believes God created the world. In most cases it refers to a Young- Earth creationist. These people believe that God created the world as described in the Bible, with all living things created as they are today. Most of these creationists belive that the world is about 6,000 years old, based on a very literal interpretation of the Bible. Some have different opinions, though, claiming the world is as much as a few hundred thousand years old. Evolutionists belive that life changes over the course of generations, with new species emerging gradually as mutations and differing survival rates alter the gene pool. Unlike creationists, evolutionists believe the world to be between 4.5 and 4.6 billion years old based on isotope dating.
