Because molecules cannot easily diffuse across cellulose cell wall of plants and algae have openings, or channels. water and other molecules small enough to fit through the channels and can freely pass through the cell wallet.

The cell wall is like the body guard of the cell, it allows anything through that is good for the cell like water, it also lets stuff out when it is not needed.
