ANS#2 It (usually) re-enters the food chain at a different trophic level. As an example: the energy stored in a dead bird powers the insects that eat it.

As organization breaks down, so does the energy being released or it is utilized by another organism...it takes time ( example: rigor mortis )

Energy that is consumed by organisms is expended by cell reproduction and/or repair and most bodily functions. Also energy used is converted into heat which helps us warm-blooded animals stay warm.

The animal that eats the dead animal or plant gains some of the energy. Unless its not eaten or taken care of, it becomes oil far far in the future.
