Is Edwards syndrome autosomal or sex-linked?

Down Syndrome is a trisomy of the 21st chromosome as opposed to an allelic inheritance through the X chromosome. Trisomy is a somatic disorder caused by improper division during gametogenesis (usually of the ovum) that results in 3 copies of the 21st chromosome in the egg once it is fertilized.

How many different genetic combinations of chromosomes can be packaged in gametes made by a diploid organism of 2n equals 6?

eight

Which of the following are example(s) of trisomy---Turner Syndrome Down's Syndrome or Klinefelter's Syndrome?

Trisomy means having three copies of a chromosomes. Turner's syndrome is NOT an example of trisomy. Someone with Turner's syndrome has only one X chromosome. Down's syndrome IS an example of trisomy. Someone with Down's syndrome has 3 copies of chromosome 21. Klinefelter's syndrome is a tricky one. On one hand, it would be considered trisomy because they have 3 sex chromosomes. However, they are not all the SAME sex chromosomes. Someone with Klinefelter's has 2 X chromosomes and one Y chromosome.

Contrast the sex chromosomes found in a human females and human males?

the female egg cell is almost like a body cell the sperm cell however has 3 sections. A tail for moving, a mid section full of energy producing mitochondria, and a head containing the nucleus and covered with enzymes.

How much dna is too much?

There is a double helix of DNA in every cell in the human body. There are an estimated 3 billion base pairs of DNA inside of every human cell. These base pairs are organized into 23 chromosome pairs. -DrBeaver

Are all sex genes in male and female located on the sex chromosome?

No, the sex chromosome will just activate them, for instance, masculine characteristics may be on chromosome 3, the y chromosome will activate these in a man and a second x chromosome will deactivate these in a woman.

What is a list of the 3 parts of a chromosome?

Telomere - The ends of the chromosome. Centromere - The primary constriction of the chromosome. Chromatid - A single molecule of DNA. The centromere also divides the chromosome into a short arm (p) and a long arm (q).

How many copies of Chromosome 21 are there in someone who has Down syndrome?

3 Pairs of Chromosome 21There are 47 chromosomes in someone with Down syndrome (most people have 46); the 21st pair has an extra chromosome. Down syndrome is also known as "Trisomy 21" - a reference to the fact that someone with Down syndrome has 3 pairs of chromosomes 21.

Are klinefelter syndrome and Turner syndrome results of nondisjunction of autosomes?

No, they are nondisjunctions of the sex chromosomes (since in Turner syndrome you only have 1 sex chromosome and in Klinefelter syndrome you have 3).

What is the sex of the person whose chromosomes are shown in Figure 8-3 above?

It is male because there is an X and a Y chromosome in the table.

What happens when a fetus has 3 cromizones instead of 2?

a "normal" human being should have a total of 46 chromosomes. 23 from mom, 23 from dad. if something goes wrong during meiosis, the chromosomes may not be separated normally and a gamete (sex cell, known as sperm or egg) will have either too few or too many chromosomes. this is known as aneuploidy. the effects of aneuploidy on the zygote will vary depending on what chromosomes you are talking about. in the case of chromosome #21, having one extra is called "trisomy 21" which leads to the condition known as down syndrome. chromosome pairs 1-22 are a person's autosomes. the 23rd pair are sex chromosomes. aneuploidy affecting the sex chromosomes can have various effects, depending on what chromosomes are inherited. as you can see, the effects of aneuploidy depend on the specific chromosome number/pair. aneuploidy usually is not fatal.

What sex chromosomes do girls have?

the combination of sex chromosomes for a female is XXX it is the triple x because in 1947 a women in North Bonerville Africa found that women have 3 sex chromosomes while males only have two

What occurs if a cell that is about to divide?

Mitosis (or meiosis in sex cells) occurs. The cell should have already made duplicates of its chromosome, mitosis is basically the alignment and splitting up of these homologous pairs, creating 2 cells with the same number of chromosome. Mitosis is broken down into 4 phases: 1.Prophase 2.Metaphase 3.Anaphase 4.Telophase Look these up if you want to know the specifics of each phase.

Do girls with Turner syndrome go through puberty?

It is estimated that 3-8% of girls with a single X-chromosome and 12-21% of females with sex chromosome mosaicism may have normal pubertal development and spontaneous menstrual periods
