25% Cater (Inorganic)

50% Crystallized mineral salts (Inorganic) Minerals such as Calcium Hydroxide and Calcium Phosphate (which is the most abundant mineral salt in bone's extracellular matrix).

25% Collagen fibers (Organic)

Bone is composed of 1/3 organic matter and 2/3 inorganic matter. The organic matter includes bone cells (osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts) and osteoids. The inorganic portion is made up of minerals, calcium and phosphorous ions, and hydroxiapatite crystals.

Inorganic Components are made of mineral salts, mainly hydroxyapatite ( a crystallized form of "tri-calcium phosphate" some calcium carbonate, and small amounts of magnesium hydroxide, fluoride and sulfate. They give the bone it's characteristic's that makes it unique among all the other tissues: an exceptional HARDNESS which allows it to resist compression.

Properties:

  • Makes the bone hard to compress because it's made out of mineral salts
  • 65% is the bone mass, and nearly 2 thirds of the matrix.

All living organisms are cells or are composed of cells. Only plant cells have cellulose which makes them stiff and upright. Plants need cellulose because they don't have bones like you and me.
