It would be unusual to describe pain as strangling. Generally speaking, even if you are in severe pain, it does not prevent you from breathing. Severe chest pains can be associated with heart disease, or broken ribs, or lung cancer, or various other diseases.

∙ 11y agoIt would be useful to know a bit more about your chest pain, such as, how severe is it, how long have you had it, does it feel more central (possibly the heart) or more like the lungs are hurting, or more like the rib cage is hurting. Medical diagnosis over the internet is tricky enough, so we should have as much information as possible. If you also feel pain radiating into your shoulder or arm, that is a good indication that you suffer from Heart disease, and possibly are having a heart attack, which requires immediate medical attention. Many other pains are not caused by such a serious condition. You can simply strain a muscle in your rib cage and feel pain, from which you would recover without needing treatment. If you have over exerted yourself, you may feel a pain in your lungs; this only requires rest. Lung cancer also causes chest pain. So, it could be lots of things.

∙ 11y agoChest pains can be due to a variety of factors, but some of the more common reasons for chest pains include: various heart conditions such as Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or even Myocardial infarction (commonly referred to as heart attacks). Less severe causes include things like Asthma or muscle strain. It is highly recommended that you visit a doctor as soon as possible if you are experiencing chest pains.
