Best Answer

A cardiac embolism is when there is an obstruction of a cardiac vessel. The obstruction can be made up of several different things including fatty plaque or blood clots.

Embolisms frequently begin as a thrombus (a moving clot/obstruction) somewhere else in the body, then move through the blood stream and get stuck in the heart because the vessels are so small.
