I have a mature Larch tree that has on one branch (only) a round bushy, dense, growth. It contains many small branches - in the shape of a large round ball, about 400 mm in dia, it is attached to the normal branch below it, by a single branch.
It has been there for about 2 years now, and this growth is living - being green in the summer and decidus in the winter.
It only started growing since I serverely topped the parent tree 2 years ago.
Yes, a knot on a tree branch is often referred to as a "burl." This typically occurs when the tree undergoes stress or injury, causing localized abnormal growth. Burls are valued for their unique appearance and are often used in woodworking for their interesting grain patterns.
The place on a tree branch where a leaf has fallen from is called a leaf scar. This mark is left behind when the leaf detaches and falls from the tree branch, and it can vary in size and shape depending on the type of tree.

A growth scar on a tree is a mark left behind after injury or damage to the tree's bark or wood. It shows as a distinct line or callus where the tree has healed and resumed growth. Growth scars can provide insight into the tree's history and help researchers study its past injuries and growth patterns.
Yes, branches do have growth rings. Each year, a tree adds a new layer of wood to its branches, which can be seen as rings when the branch is cut. These rings can provide information about the age and growth history of the tree.

To encourage a rubber tree to branch more effectively, you can prune the top of the tree to promote lateral growth, provide adequate sunlight and water, and use a balanced fertilizer to support healthy growth.

To promote healthy growth, prune a small tree branch by making a clean cut just above a bud or lateral branch at a 45-degree angle. Avoid leaving stubs or cutting too close to the trunk. This will encourage new growth and maintain the tree's overall health.
