It depends on the number of chromosomes in the original cell. If the original cell is diploid (contains two copies of each chromosome), the daughter cells resulting from meiosis will be haploid (containing one copy of each chromosome). If there were four copies of each chromosome in the original cell, the daughter cells would be diploid.
