Osteocytes are mature bone cells that are found within the bone matrix. They are responsible for maintaining and monitoring the surrounding bone tissue by regulating mineral homeostasis and facilitating communication between bone-forming cells and bone-resorbing cells. Osteocytes play a key role in bone remodeling and repair processes.
