Renal failure, which is otherwise referred to as kidney failure, involves the failure of the kidneys in filtering waste materials and fluids from the blood. The condition is said to be caused when there is less than 15% functionality of the kidneys.

It could occur either suddenly (Acute Kidney Injury) or progressively due to chronic kidney disease. Causes of renal failure include Diabetes, hypertension, kidney disorders, infections and drugs or poisons.

Signs that may be experienced include swelling of legs or feet, fatigue, nausea, itching, muscle cramps, abnormalities in urination and lack of concentration. Some patients may not experience any signs at all.

Treatments include the cause and extent of damage. Extreme cases may require dialysis or kidney transplant.
