What is special about a that can release an acid from the back of it's body by mixing 2 chemicals, hydroquinone and hydrogen-peroxide. It is the only beetle that can release an acid. When releasing the acid a loud popping sound is heard. The chemicals used to make the acid are very dangerous. When the Bombardier Beetle is threatened it uses chemical reaction inside its abdomen to produce high pressure and hot, corrosive liquid. the high pressure gas is used to squirt near-boiling liquid at its attack.

It's a kind of darkling beetle in the family Tenebrionidae. They have spikey dorsal abdomens and can act like they're dead when threatened. There are a good number of them in the beetle pet trade, too.
