Cells are made up of a cell nucleus (where the DNA is found), an outside membrane called the cell wall, a fluid in side the membrane called the cytoplasm and things called organelles which float round in the cytoplasm the most well known or which are called the ribosomes (factories to make protein) and the mitochondria (which generate energy for the cell).

according to one of the postulates of "cell theory":

  • cell is the basic and independent unit of life that perfoms all the structural and functional activities of life.

in simple words, when similar cells having particular funtion assembles together in a "structure" they form organs and organ's activity "function" is carried out by cells.for example, during digestion, the complex substances in food are decomposed into simpler ones by the active chemcals of digestive tract and these chemicals are secreted by cells in their acive form at the time of need.
