Both these regions of the brain are concerned with speech and language. Brocas is concerned with the actual mechanical production of peech. Damage to this area appears as an inability to produce correct sounds.

Wernicke's area is concerned with the understanding of speech and language.

Fairly simple tests are able to distinguish which area is damaged. Broca's area is often damaged in strokes.
